A Word About Bulk Storage

This is a post primarily for my Dad but I'm adding it to my blog so that I don't forget (it's my memory, remember? :) )

In the last post I mentioned that I got a great deal on 50# of oats.  Today, I opened the bag and tried to put them in moth-proof storage.  My plan was to use the container I already had been using for wheat.  No dice.  I failed to calculate for the volume difference.  Fifty pounds of oats takes up a lot more space than 50 pounds of wheat.  Lesson learned.  As I considered what I was going to do with the 25# of wheat that did not fit, I wondered if I could buy a container cheap enough to still make the price for my oats worthwhile.  I then thankfully remembered a tip I learned from http://heartkeepercommonroom.blogspot.com/: She uses icing containers from bakeries.  I called my local store, and sure enough they had 3 empty ones!  They are perfect: safe for food and FREE.  The bakery lady even cleaned them for me.   I think I will try to get at least 5 more and I can use them for rice and beans.

Container 1, the others were Orange and Green icing in their former life.
And here's a picture of the girls after they had taken over my bed a few mornings ago, just because...
